Far away, but still close.
Someday I was going to sing in a competition.. I was trying my best, and I was not hoping for the 1st place tho. But fortunately I got the 2nd place, that was a pretty good result for a girl like me.
Day by day passed nicely. Until one day in a peaceful afternoon someone calls me. It was a man voice, he was talking in English but his dialect didn't sound like he used English often.. I was wondering with whom I was talking with until he told me he is a staff from YGEnt.
Wow I was so shocked back then, why did they call me? Were they trying to..... 'Ah, it's just a dream!' I thought.
But then they started to talk about my passion in singing. 'Wow, that's my hobby', I said. So they asked me, 'Do you want to be part of our family?' WOW! I couldn't say anything.. I was full of shock and wild imagination. So I calmly ask them back, 'W-what? Part of your family? Do you mean YG or..something else?' And then they said 'Of course, it's YG!' I couldn't do anything..I was in a freeze mode. My brain stopped working...
Then they asked me, 'What about that? You have to ask your parents too, and I will send you an e-mail about this.' Because my mom was in house too, so I asked my mother right away. 'Mommm! Someone from YGEnt is calling me, he's talking with me now. And he asks about your permission, can I be part of their family?' Because my mom didn't know a lot about K-Pop things, so I told the staff to end this conversation because I'd be having a serious conversation with Mom and Dad later, to ask for permission. So they kindly end the call.
In the night, when our family were gathering-- we were watching TV. I was the one to start the conversation.. I told them 'Dad, remember when I join the singing competition and I got the 2nd place?' He answered calmly, 'Yes, dear. Why?' 'Someone from YGEnt called me today' He didn't know K-Pop well, so he asked me 'YGEnt? Is that an agency from South Korea? Such as SMEnt?' I answered kindly 'Yes, dad. A staff from that agency called me today.. And they ask me to be part of their family. And they told me to ask you about the permission..' 'O really? I can't say that I'm agree.. You'll live there, right?' 'Yes, dad.' 'With whom will you live? Where will you live? And you can't speak Korean fluently right? Your Korean is equal as Korean Infants, right? hehehe' Then I replied 'Yes, dad. They sent me this e-mail. It's all about what you're worrying about.. please read carefully' Then he read that carefully.
'Oh, okay then.. I agree. You have to ask your mom too, right?' He said. 'Yes, I have to. I asked her right away when YG staff was still in call with me, but she didn't know K-Pop well so I have to explain it to her first.. So I haven't explained it yet. I'm going to explain it now..'
And then I went to the dining room. I explained it to my mother, I explained everything so she could understand, AND SHE AGREED TOO. I still can't explain how happy and how great that moment was! And then I replied the e-mail, I said that my parents agreed.
The next day they replied and asked me to go to South Korea as soon as possible, they gave me 3 weeks to arrive in South Korea.
It was only took 2 weeks for me to get my VISA, and everything like clothes, coat, jackets, and everything. I went to South Korea with my dad,he wanted to accompany me so I agreed. Rather than I come alone with no one to talk to and that was my first time visiting South Korea.
I was so happy.. When we got out from the airport, I saw someone raising a placard and..my name was written on it! 'Oh, that must a staff from YG', I thought. And then I came close to him, and I asked him in English. 'I am Pinastika, are you from YG?' he replied with smile, 'Yes, I am. Is he your father?' 'Yes, he is. Father, he's a staff from YG.' And then my father said 'Oh, nice to meet you!' and then they shook hands.The staff from YG said, 'Okay then let's go to my car, I'll carry your carriers. Sir, lets get into my car' So we went to his car, he parked his car quiet far from where we stood and we got in.
On our way to YG building, we saw Korea's huge buildings. They are beutiful, and built with modern architecture. The staff from YG kept telling stories and jokes, he's pretty fluent in English.
Finally we arrived in front of YG Building, I couldn't stood properly back then.. It was my first time to go to South Korea, it was my first time too to stand in front of YG Building... and one thing I will always be thankful for, THEY INVITED ME AND ASKED ME TO BE PART OF THEIR FAMILY. Many people came to YG Building and South Korea, just to see how's YG Building look like.But I was...INVITED.
So we entered the YGBuilding.. It was so cool, they have their artists posters everywhere! Such as 2NE1, BIGBANG, Lee Hi, EPIK HIGH, and the new-comer.... AKDONG MUSICIAN! They arranged it all amazingly swaggy and cool!
And then the staff that picked up us earlier, introduced us to some other staffs. They were sitting casually, so I greeted them and introduced myself and my dad too. We bowed, they replied with bow too. And then a little-meeting started. They started to explain everything about the contract in English, my dad was listening to it carefully too. After agreeing to the contract and autographed it, finally... I officially became their trainee.
And my trainee life began..
There were some other trainees, most of them were from South Korea. They were talking in Korean.. Since my Korean wasn't so fluent yet, I didn't talk to them.. But I found this girl look like she didn't have anyone to talk to, just like me. So I greeted her, in English of course. We were talking quiet comfortably and I found out that she was 3 years older than me. So I'd have to call her eonni, right? Her name is Park Na Jin but she'd like to be called Nana. She's Korean, but she was born in Indonesia too! OMG I told her that I'm from Indonesia, too! She was pretty shocked too. I asked her if she could speak Indonesian, She answered me shyly 'OMG I can't speak Indonesian fluently.. I went to International School and didn't use Indonesian much. But I can understand if you talk Indonesian' I replied, 'Oh that's okay, I'm going to use English so you can fully understand what I say, hehe' she replied with a beautiful smile, she looked so shy, she must be so shy back then..
After that, we became so close. We went out often. We went out to try street foods with allowance we got. We tried odeng, ttoppokki, jajangmyun,and we even came to some shops that sell weird-but-cute things. Our favorite street food is Bubble Tea and Odeng!
We are so close. Staffs, choreographers, Korean Teachers, Singing Teachers, other trainees, and everyone in that building knew us. We were quiet popular back then, well known as shy-foreigners-but-they're-happy-viruses! Nana was very shy, but I couldn't stay still back then.. I did mistakes but it ended up funny, I told jokes, and did weird things with everyone. Because Nana only had me back then, so she was so close with me and her shy behavior slowly disappeared..

It had been 3 years of training in YGEnt. Finally, they announce something. That they were going to form a new girl group. My heart was beating fast and I could felt them beating hardly even though I didn't touch my chest. They said that they were going to announce the members in 2 days. I couldn't think of anything else, except debuting.
I was holding Nana's hand tightly.. Because I wanted to debut, but with Nana too.. Could it possibly happen?
I was praying really hard back then, so did Nana. Everyone was practicing and excercising a lot, so they could be chosen.
The D-Day finally came..
I still remember it clearly, it was at 2pm in a training room. Finally they announce whos the members of the girl group...
And....
I could see......
My name....
Written on it......
Yes, on the paper....
WHAT
I'M
GOING
TO
DEBUT.
I couldn't even blinking, all I could do was fainting. Yes, faint.
OH AND THE SECOND HAPPINESS I HAD WAS.....
I COULD SEE NANA'S NAME TOO.
OH! I'm going to debut with my first friend in South Korea?
With my best friend?
OMG. M-I-R-A-C-L-E.
So I hugged Nana right away because I was so happy, I even shed a tear.
But all I could see in Nana's face was... She was crying. YES. CRYING.
She shed so many tears that her eyes turned red, I hugged her and calmed her with good words...
After she calmed down, I ask her kindly. 'eonni, why did you cry?' 'Oh.. All I could think was my family.. with me having my debut, doesnt it mean that we're going to have less time to meet our family?' I replied, 'Yes, you're right. But in your spare time, you'll be able contact them through phone, or skype, or face time, right?' She replied with little smile on her face, 'Right, Nas. Thank you for calming me down.. I don't know how worse it could be if I dont have you beside me' I replied with smile too, 'Yes, eonni. You're supposed to be happy because other trainees who dont get to debut yet want to be us.. Please be thankful, and don't forget to smile!' And then she hugged me right away.
Our group is a group with 8 members, 6 members are Korean, and Nana is Korean too but she was born in Indonesia and grown up there. And I'm Indonesian. Our temporary-group-name was G1, and we had to practice for 5 months again before we were officially debuting.
We were practicing everyday, harder, harder, and harder.. It was like our life was just for practicing. And the members of our group are Nana (Park Na Jin), Kim Nam Yu (nayu), Kim Ha Jeo (Joeha), Lee Min Jang (MinJang), Kang So Na (SoNa), Son Sa Hyun (sayun), Jung Hye Bin (HyeBin), and I.
We were getting closer everyday, until one night when we were gathering together, a staff reminding us about tomorrow's schedule (YES WE WERE GOING TO HAVE OUR DEBUT STAGE AT M!COUNTDOWN)
Finally... the debut stage..
It was at the backstage, we were practicing again again and again. It was like our heart were going to burst out and we had limitless energy. We finally debuting with G18 group name. Because we debuted with 8 members, G stands for Girls, and 18 stands for maknae's age when she debuts. AND THE MAKNAE IS ME. Our age gap is not as that big, Nana is the 4 oldest in the group, and the oldest is Nayu eonni. She's the leader.
And we got to be interviewed first, before performing. We were so nervous as hell but we did it pretty good. And then we went to the backstage again, preparing for our stage. Not so long after that, the TV crew told us to prepare behind the stage.
And then.. the stage started nicely, and ended nicely too!
